Working with Signature Development Group and Claremont Hotel, to develop a 45 unit residential addition to the historic hotel in Oakland California. In accordance with the Secretary of State Historic Guidelines, the project chose a modern day shingle style, with roof lines completing the existing building and a style that does not mimic nor compete with the Historic Structure. The project includes two podiums parking, which help integrate the project into the sloping hillside. The massing is designed to minimize the bulk of the project, with a two story structure at the lower part of the site separated by a courtyard to the upper 4 story building. The design utilizes a landscaped stone wall as the base, which is a similar approach taken by the Claremont Hotel and provides a more gracious entrance to the main entry. It also give privacy to the units located at the base of the project.
